e-Resources is Thermal-Fluids Central's open repository. It collects, preserves, and disseminates, securely and reliably, the intellectual and creative digital works of its contributors, allowing their research to reach a wider audience than traditional forms of distribution.
The following policies and guidelines outline various aspects of depositing and managing content in e-Resources. These policies and guidelines are subject to internal review and modification. e-Resources communities will be alerted to any changes which affect them or their collections in the institutional repository.

e-Resources content consists of collections maintained within communities. These collections will be subject to guidelines defined by Global Digital Central administration, and any changes made will be done so at the discretion of Global Digital Central. As in all partnerships, it is important that all stakeholders understand and agree to the policies, guidelines, and procedures required to build an open repository.
e-Resources consists of collections submitted by contributors in the field of thermal-fluids. An e-Resources community is a general content category for e-Resources items, such as lectures, presentations, or animation/videos.
The actual contributions to e-Resources are stored within collections, which are located within communities and sub-communities. e-Resources collections are divided into more specific categories than their parent communities, and focus on individual topics within the field of thermal-fluids.
When depositing items in e-Resources, a non-exclusive deposit license agreement appears in the submission template. This grants e-Resources the right to distribute scholarly works online and to migrate them to new formats in the future if necessary. Authors must agree to the terms of this license to complete the submission by clicking the "I Grant the License" button. If someone deposits items on an author's behalf, the proxy will grant the license and the author will be bound to the terms.

All items in e-Resources will be considered free for all to view, in accordance with standard "open access" principals, unless otherwise negotiated with e-Resources administrators.
Global Digital Central foresees under exceptions times that it may be necessary to withdraw items from e-Resources. Under some circumstances items will be removed from view, but to avoid loss of the historical record, all such transactions will be traced in the form of a note in the < Description.provenance > field of the Dublin Core record. The content of the note will be one of the following:
Since items that are removed may have been cited, e-Resources will always supply a "tombstone" when the item is removed, which will include the original metadata for verification plus one of the above withdrawal statements in place of the link to the object. The metadata will be visible, but not searchable, and is unavailable for metadata harvesting.
We wish to provide support for as many file formats as possible. Over time, items stored in e-Resources will be preserved as is, using a combination of time-honored techniques for data management and best practices for digital preservation. As for specific formats, however, the proprietary nature of many file types makes it impossible to guarantee preservation. Put simply, our policy for file formats is:
When a file is uploaded to the IR, we assign it one of the following categories:
By "support" we mean "make usable in the future, using whatever combination of techniques (such as migration, emulation, etc.) is appropriate given the context of need." For supported formats, we might choose to bulk-transform files from a current format version to a future one, for instance. Because we can't predict which services will be necessary in the future, we continually monitor formats and techniques to ensure we can accommodate needs as they arise.
In the meantime, we can choose to support a format if we can gather enough documentation to capture how the format works. In particular, we collect file specifications, descriptions and code samples and make those available in the e-Resources Format Reference Collection below. Unfortunately, this means that proprietary formats with non-public materials cannot be supported in e-Resources.
We will still preserve these files, however, and in cases where such formats are native to tools supported by e-Resources, we will provide you with guidance on converting your files into formats we do support. It is also likely that the popularity of some proprietary formats (such as Microsoft .doc, .xls, and .ppt) will ensure their continued prevalence or at least the tools to convert such formats to new ones. Even so, we cannot guarantee this level of service, so we will still list these formats as "known," not "supported."
We understand that there are always more formats to consider, and we would appreciate your help in identifying and studying the suitability of support for formats you care about. If we can't identify a format, e-Resources will record it as "unknown," aka, "application/octet-stream," but we would like to keep the percentage of supported format materials in e-Resources as high as possible.
In the table below, description is what most people use as the name for the format. Extensions are typical file name extensions (the part after the dot, e.g., the extension for "index.html" is "html"). These are not case-sensitive in e-Resources, so either "sample.XML" or "sample.xml" will be recognized as XML. MIME type is the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) type identifier.
